Step 3: Virtual Reality Experience
What to expect during VR exposure:
- You will find yourself in a virtual environment simulating a social situation
- It is worth looking around and observing the surroundings as in a real situation
- Green circle ('cues') will appear in the scene - look on them until they dissappear
- The therapist may ask you to perform specific tasks in the virtual environment
You always have the option to stop the exposure
If anxiety levels become too intense, you can remove the VR headset at any time. The therapist is present at all times and will assist you if needed.
Example exposure scene:
Scenes may depict various social situations such as a café, conference room, or other public spaces. The difficulty level of scenes will be adjusted to your therapy progress.
After completing the VR session, the therapist will ask about your anxiety level again. This helps assess the effectiveness of the exposure and plan the next therapy steps.
